About My neice Crystal

My neice Crystal was a wonderful little girl. I chose the graphic for My Special Angels because this is how she looked. She had blonde hair, big blue eyes, and a heart filled with love. This gentle caring child died at the age of 3 years old. She had been coughing during the night so her father brought her to the Children's Hopsital.

How She Died

They told him that it was the Croop and to go home, give her some fluids, open her window and she'd be fine. Well, he did all of that and in the middle of the night she came in his room stating that she couldn't sleep. So he told her to climb in and when she did she spilt her juice. So they both went to sleep in her bed (which was a double bed as well).
During that night she died. When my brother-in-law suddenly woke. He figured the reason for being cold was due to the open window, but when he touched Crystal, she was totally cold and blue. He started mouth to mouth and yelled for his other brother to call for an ambulence.
He did that and then called us. We arrrived at the hospital shortly after they did to learn that she was already gone.

My brother in law took this very hard and tried to end his own life, blaming himself for her death. He failed in his attempt and everyone is very thankful for that, but Crystal's death could have been prevented.
The hospital that sent her home had an emergency doctor on call. This was his first time alone in emergency and he was doing his internship. He was not experienced enough to have been alone. So her death was preventable and that upset me.

Her death was preventable

The autopsy showed that her lungs filled with fluid and burst. She had pneumonia and not the croop as was diagnosed.
Her death was preventable if she had been properly diagnosed in the first place. Do I sound angry? I am. I hate knowing that any child has died no matter what the reason.

I think it's harder to take when their death was preventable. Most of the children deaths that I read about are not preventable.

Some die from illnesses or diseases that no one could have cured. That's still hard to understand, but there is no one to blame in that kind of a death.

Many childrens' deaths are preventable (which is really sad) such as the children who die from abuse - their deaths didn't have to be.
All the children who died in accidents...their deaths didn't have to be either.
Someone caused their deaths and therefore their deaths were preventable.

So in memory of Crystal, a wonderful, beautiful little angel, Lady Care's Realm will offer a special award to any site that has lost a child.

It doesn't matter on the relationship of the child to the site owner, just that a child has died and they have offered space in honor of their memory.
